Kathryn Stovall Dennis
“Clay is a unique and wondrous material to work with,” says Kathryn. The appeal lies in her ability to begin with malleable organic earth and then give it structure. For Kathryn, the process is the joy, the resulting art simply the fun by-product. The dominant historical and ethnic influences in her work are African, Chinese, Japanese and Celtic. The artist’s love of the ocean also inspires water and fish imagery that come to life on colorful bowls, platters and sculpture. Her pieces convey a sense of whimsy coupled with deeper, contemplative feelings. Kathryn's extensive experience with glass has led her to literally fuse two mediums together, often adding fused glass accents to her vessels. Kathryn returned to the ceramics field after a twenty year absence. During those years, she pursued art through her leaded glass studio. Kathryn has recently completed construction on a small ceramics studio at her San Clemente home, where she lives with her husband and two children. |
